About the Sardar Vidyabhaan Trust [SVT]

The Sardar Vidyabhavan Trust (SVT), Mehsana was established in 1964 with a view to providing higher education in the field of Arts and Commerce. It started functioning in a rented house. The foundation stone of the said trust was laid by an eminent and a visionary named Late Shri Balrambhai Kshatriya in order to impart higher education Mehsana in particular and North Gujarat region in general. The college flourished under the holy leadership of Late Balrambhai Kshatriya very much.

Late Shri Balrambhai Kshatriya came in contact with Shri Anilbhai Patel who returned from America after gaining higher education from foreign universities and who was capable of handling everything at a very young age. Late Shri Balrambhai Kshatriya had full faith in the leadership of the eminent personality of Late Shri Anilbhai Patel. He was given a responsibility as a Chairman of SVT in 1979. Late Shri Anilbhai Patel constructed new buildings for two colleges which were run under the banner of SVT seeking all sorts of support from philanthropists of North Gujarat. There was no science college in Mehsana at that time and therefore the students were compelled to go to Ahmedabad for science education. Late Shri Anilbhai Patel convinced Shri Ganpatbhai Patel that there was a dire need for a science college. In order to express his sense of gratitude to the native place, Shri Ganpatbhai Patel donated a handsome amount to build a new science building in the name of his wife Shrimati Urmilaben Patel. With the financial support from a distinguished businessman and the localites, two new colleges –“Education and Law” were started in the same campus with great efforts of Late Shri Anilbhai Patel.  The educational institutes affiliated to SVT directly and indirectly enjoy status of being “Leaders” in the educational field.

The march towards progress was initiated under his dynamic leadership. Different colleges were established one after the other in spacious premises and an excellent environment on the lands purchased by the SVT. The same trust established B.B.A., B.C.A. and B. Pharm colleges and later on these colleges were handed over to Ganpat University, Kherva. SVT was extremely fortunate to have blossomed under the dynamic leaderships of its Founder Late Shri Balrambhai Kshatriya and a great visionary Late Shri Anilbhai Patel who had the vision to make an entire North Gujarat region a seat of learning and education.

For spreading higher technical education, 300 acres of land was purchased near a village named Kherva. On account of this, the SVT has been able to assist in the development of Ganpat University. Over the years, SVT has become one of the largest academic trusts in North Gujarat. At present, seven institutions are run by the SVT which provide higher education from UG to Ph.D. level to more than 8000 college students. The colleges, run under SVT, have been producing great personalities who enjoy higher status in the society as judges, lawyers, Chartered Accountants, authors, journalists, administrative officers, class I and II officers, police officers, teachers, industrialists, politicians etc. since their inception.

After the sudden demise of Shri Anilbhai Patel the SVT is headed by his elder brother named Shri Arvindbhai Patel who was a former minister of Gujarat State. Presently, he is the Chairman of SVT. An industrious industrialist named Shri K. K. Patel is a Managing Trustee of SVT from the year 2002 to till date. The trust could establish these colleges with the financial support from all walks of life especially Urban Bank, Sarvodaya Bank, Shri S. M. Shah and Shri U. V. Patel. About Shri V. R. Patel College of Commerce, [VRPCCM]

A well-known industrialist named Shri Ugarchandbhai Patel who generously donated Rs. 5 lacs for the establishment of a separate commerce college in the name of his father named Shri Varanasidas Ranchhoddas Patel. Therefore the name, assigned to our college, is Shri V. R. Patel College of Commerce, Mehsana on 1st January, 1986 with the aim of imparting higher quality education in the new emerging and occupational areas of trade and commerce. The collaborative vision is to develop entrepreneurial spirit among the youth as also to create a Human Resource to cater to the business needs of a highly successful business community that would contribute to the national growth.

The college is presently managed by the same trust under the pious chairmanship of a renowned politician and a former minister of Gujarat State named Shri Arvindbhai T. Patel, the holy leadership of an industrious industrialist and managing trustee Shri K. K. Patel and the devoted trustees as well. The college has been striving for excellence in all the spheres of life with the help of the visionary Managing Trustee Shri K. K. Patel, highly qualified trustees and the staff members of the Sardar Vidya Bhavan Trust since its inception.

Ours is a grant-in-aid college affiliated to Hemchandracharya North Gujarat University, Patan and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under the UGC act 2(f) and 12 (B). The college has also occupied the leading position among the commerce colleges affiliated to Hemchandracharya North Gujarat University. In comparison with the commerce colleges affiliated to Hemchandracharya North Gujarat University, it has the distinct status of obtaining ‘A’ Grade from National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in the 2nd cycle. We have also been assigned ‘A’ Grade in AAA by KCG, Gujarat. We stand first so far as the strength of the students and the number of subjects offered as principal and subsidiary are concerned. We offer Advanced Account & Auditing, Advanced Statistics and Advanced Business Management as main and Advanced Account & Auditing, Advanced Statistics and Advanced Business Management, Secretarial Practice and Computer Application as subsidiary subjects. The college, with its well defined goals and aspirations, is not only committed to quality education but holistic education also.  

The college is located in Mehsana on the National Highway that connects all the major parts of Gujarat and Rajasthan including Delhi and northern states of India. Mehsana is well-known as The Milk City and The Oil City as well. It takes pride in having one of the biggest dairies of India named “The Dudh Sagar Dairy” which has brought about the white revolution in the North Gujarat region. The O.N.G.C. Project, situated in the vicinity of Mehsana district, has also made a significant contribution to the development of the city. There are two GIDCs in Mehsana – one on the highway and the other near the village named Dediyasan. The companies belonging to these two GIDCs enjoy the country-wide popularity for their worth-manufacturing products. Chhatral and Kadi are the other places where the large scale industries have been established. The students of our college can have the first-hand experience of industrial units and the expertise of the various fields related to industrial products.

The world has become a 'Global Village and, therefore, we need to keep pace with the world. Each day brings new challenges. With the ever expanding horizons of trade and commerce; we are compelled to keep pace with the latest trends prevalent in the world of commerce and trade. We should make conscious endeavours to maintain the quality of people and products in order to make great progress in this ever-growing world. We need to make optimum utilization of resources made available to us by the Almighty. Commerce education has become indispensable to gain an access to these resources. The members of Sardar Vidyabhavan Trust are of the opinion that commerce education based on ethical values and quality can prove to be beneficial to the society in particular and the nation in general. Our trust is keenly interested in imparting quality and value based education to the students of this area i. e. Mehsana district.

Thirty five years down the time line Shri V. R. Patel College of Commerce (VRPCCM) has emerged as one of the leading commerce colleges affiliated to Hemchandracharya North Gujarat University, Patan. VRPCCM has been making great experiments in the field of trade and commerce since its inception. It has also set up novel trends and policies on the campus and has pioneered many useful academic systems with amazing results. The bright, enthusiastic and dedicated students seek admission in this college every year.
